MANDY'S TAKE
“Mayver’s has found a smart middle ground here – starting with 47% peanuts and dates for wholefood goodness, then adding functional ingredients that boost the nutrition stats. Yes, the soluble tapioca fibre and faba bean protein are processed, but they deliver impressive numbers: 17.9g protein (more than Carman’s!) and 13.1g fibre. At 21.3g sugar, it’s lower than most date-based bars. While I always prefer fibre from natural wholefood sources like nuts, seeds and fruit, the added fibre here might be too much for sensitive stomachs – start with half a bar! The ‘natural caramel flavour’ feels unnecessary, but overall this delivers on both nutrition AND taste”

THE VERDICT
This bar proves that thoughtful use of functional ingredients can enhance nutrition without sacrificing too much on the wholefood front. With better protein than Carman’s and lower sugar than most date bars, Mayver’s has created something that actually delivers on its health promises. While I’d always choose fibre from whole foods over extracted sources, this is a realistic and nutritious choice for busy people. Just be mindful that 13g of fibre (much from added sources) might be too much for sensitive tummies!
