MANDY'S TAKE
“Mother Earth keeps things relatively simple here with just 9 ingredients compared to the 15+ we often see in commercial bars. Starting with 32% wholegrain oats and using real butter instead of inflammatory vegetable oils shows a genuine commitment to real food. But here’s the catch: with 30.6g of sugar per 100g, it’s one-third sugar, and most of it comes from processed sources like brown sugar and chocolate. The inclusion of sulphur dioxide (220) in the coconut is also disappointing, as it can trigger reactions in sensitive individuals. Yes, the ingredients are recognisable, but the sweetness is still on par with a cookie. Think of it as a chocolate chip cookie in bar form — and treat it accordingly.”

THE VERDICT
The name suggests this is a wholesome, wholefood bar, but look a little closer and you’ll see it’s mostly clever marketing. While it’s made with some recognisable ingredients like oats, butter and chocolate, it’s also one-third sugar and includes sulphur dioxide (220), a preservative that I believe has no place in a product targeting families. Yes, it’s better than many ultra-processed snack bars, and the short ingredient list earns points – but let’s be clear: this is a cookie in bar form. Not health food. Just packaged a little smarter.
