MANDY'S TAKE

“This bar positions itself as a functional food, low-carb, high-fibre, low-sugar, but it doesn’t quite live up to the promise. It boasts 34g of fibre per 100g, but the majority comes from ultra-processed sources: isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMO), polydextrose, soluble corn fibre, and chicory root fibre (a more natural option). This combination may trigger bloating, gas, and digestive upset, especially in children and sensitive individuals.
Its “sugar-free” claim relies on erythritol and monk fruit. Yet, the inclusion of maltodextrin — a highly processed carbohydrate known to spike blood sugar faster than table sugar — directly undermines its low-carb positioning.
Add to that a mix of vegetable fats, modified starch (1450), humectants, acacia gum, sulphites, and just 4.5% real cherry juice, and you’re left with a product that delivers on paper macros but fails on ingredient integrity. Even by functional food standards, this is a heavily ultra-processed bar, not something I’d consider offering as real nourishment.”

THE VERDICT

This bar achieves its low-carb label through ingredient engineering rather than real food swaps. While it may fit keto macros on paper, the high dose of synthetic fibres and processed sugar alternatives can lead to bloating and gut discomfort. With minimal fruit and a heavily processed base, it’s more a functional snack than a nourishing one. The 2.75 Real Food Rating (RFR) reflects the technical achievement of low sugar and carbs, but it’s a long way from wholefood nutrition.
