MANDY'S TAKE
“Despite the appearance and marketing of “wholemeal” and “multigrain,” this wrap is, unfortunately, a textbook ultra-processed food. Ingredient analysis reveals that the predominant base is refined wheat flour, with only 28% wholemeal content. The presence of palm oil-based vegetable shortening as a key ingredient (with industrial emulsifiers like 471 – listed twice – and 481) flags both heavy processing and environmental concerns. The bread also relies on a cocktail of additives: multiple emulsifiers, preservatives, humectants, and thickeners. While the nutrition panel boasts excellent fibre (8g/100g), solid protein, and low sugar and fat for the category, the overwhelming burden of industrial processing and additives, especially the use of high concern preservatives mixed with cautionary additives, completely sinks its Real Food Rating to 1.5/5 (RFR). This is the kind of product that families seeking truly nourishing, minimally processed options should avoid. No matter how good the fibre or protein is, the risks from the additive and processing load dominate.”

NUTRITION SNAPSHOT
Positives
- Excellent fibre: 8g/100g—a rare “excellent source” for a wrap.
- Low sugar: 3.2g/100g.
- Good protein: 8.95g/100g.
- Low total fat: 6.9g/100g.
- Contains some seeds (linseed), trace grains.
Negatives
- Emulsifiers 471 (mono- & diglycerides of fatty acids) and 481 (sodium stearoyl lactylate) are linked to gut, metabolic, and heart health risks, and are markers of heavy industrial processing.
- Preservatives 281 (sodium propionate) and 200 (sorbic acid) are associated with risks such as hyperactivity, gut disruption, and potential allergic reactions.
- Additives 422 (humectant, glycerol) and 412 (thickener, guar gum) add to the overall chemical load and processing burden.
- Palm oil is used as a main fat source, raising significant concerns for both health (as a refined saturated fat) and for unsustainable agricultural practices including deforestation, habitat loss, and threats to endangered species.
- Refined wheat and palm oil are the main ingredients, reducing the nutritional quality of the wrap.
- Industrial processing and a reliance on additives cannot be redeemed by high fibre or protein content.
- There are a total of 6 concerning additives used in this wrap, compounding the overall risk and processing level.

THE VERDICT
Despite its toddler-friendly branding, this bar contains over 30% sugar and several ultra-processed ingredients that have no place in a baby’s or toddler’s daily diet. With refined flour, processed dairy, and artificial sweeteners masquerading as fruit, this is confectionery pretending to be healthy. Parents deserve better. This is not a real food choice for children under 2 — or for any family aiming to reduce sugar and processed ingredients. It gets a solid 1.5/5 Real Food Rating (RFR) and falls into the Avoid category.
