MANDY'S TAKE
At first glance, Nutri-Grain Bars might seem like a convenient, nutritious snack, especially with a name like “Nutri.” But a closer look reveals that over a third of the bar is pure sugar, with seven different added sugars contributing to a staggering 37.6g per 100g — about the same sugar content as Oreo cookies. That puts it much closer to a chocolate biscuit than the “sports fuel” its marketing suggests.
The cereal base is largely made up of refined flours, and the fibre content is just 1.5g per 100g, even lower than white bread. Each bar delivers only 1.6g of protein, despite its long-running association with the “Iron Man” brand. As for the chocolate layer? It’s not real chocolate — just a compound coating made from vegetable fat, emulsifiers, humectants, and artificial stabilisers.
This is a highly ultra-processed product, and a textbook case of health-washing; sounding nutritious while offering very little real nourishment. It’s not a bar I’d recommend for children, or for anyone trying to fuel their body with real, balanced food.

THE VERDICT
The Nutri-Grain branding suggests health, strength, and performance, even resembling a protein bar. But in reality, it’s nearly 40% sugar, low in fibre, and made with seven added sweeteners and ultra-processed ingredients. This is one I would recommend avoiding, and instead treating it in the same way you would a confectionery bar. It receives a generous 1/5 Real Food Rating (RFR).
